SkyAlyne represents a unique and exciting opportunity for Canada to fully control its future military pilot and aircrew training capabilities. Combining the considerable experience and expertise of CAE and KF Aerospace, SkyAlyne will collaborate and innovate with Canada to keep the RCAF at the forefront of military aviation training. We are the lowest risk option when transitioning to the new program, and are in the best position to ensure it is a success for years to come.

U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt once described Canada as “the aerodrome of democracy”. That legacy can only be preserved by entrusting and empowering Canadian companies to continue training our own military pilots and aircrew.

The full SkyAlyne Team includes parent companies CAE and KF Aerospace, along with our pan-Canadian group of subcontractors joining us on our bid for the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) Program.

Canadian-based companies Bluedrop Training and Simulation, Canadian Base Operators, Canadian Helicopters, CGI, Lockheed Martin Canada, PAL Aerospace, REDspace, SERCO Canada and Strategic Relationships Solutions Inc. will add considerable expertise, experience and Canadian content to our bid.

These companies have extensive experience working with the RCAF. Most also currently support the two existing training programs – the NFTC program managed by CAE and the CFTS program managed by KF Aerospace.

The SkyAlyne team collectively employs more than 19,000 Canadians and operates in every region of Canada – from coast to coast to coast.

By partnering with Canadian suppliers, including Indigenous and small-medium businesses from across Canada, SkyAlyne ensures Canada’s military aircrew training pipeline is secure, and the benefits to our economy and communities are maximized.

Aircrew Training for a New Generation

All Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) pilots are currently trained through two contracted programs, managed separately by SkyAlyne’s parent companies.

The Contracted Flying Training and Support (CFTS) program in Southport, MB, is led by KF Aerospace and the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program in Moose Jaw, SK/Cold Lake, AB, is managed by Montreal-based CAE.

As these programs approach their designated completion dates, the Department of National Defence (DND) has determined the next contracted program will combine all phases of pilot training, together with Air Combat Systems Officer (ACSO) and Airborne Electronic Sensor Operator (AES Op) training, currently provided by the military in Winnipeg, MB. This combined aircrew training service contract is called the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) Program.

FAcT will be led by a single training provider responsible for turnkey training operations. To determine the next sole contractor for FAcT, the Government of Canada has announced a competitive bidding process and chosen a small number of pre-qualified suppliers, including SkyAlyne. The contract award is expected in 2023.

Those who proudly wear our nation’s uniform deserve the best training and support. SkyAlyne has assembled a team of the foremost experts in military aircrew training – many of whom you can meet here on the floor of CANSEC. Please find us and learn more about our capabilities, our excellent people, and our unwavering commitment to Canada and the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Today, we’re hard at work preparing our proposal and ensuring that we will meet and exceed all RCAF and Government of Canada requirements to train the next generations of pilots and aircrew.

While we are working together to build upon the best practices of our current programs and develop an innovative and flexible training program for our future RCAF aircrew, as the only truly Canadian qualified supplier for the FAcT program, we will also ensure all program benefits and potential future export benefits stay in Canada, helping to grow Canadian businesses and communities for many years to come.
